Things to remember as you visiting Kenya
When you think about Kenya, images of safari jeeps and beach views likely come to mind, but Nairobi also offers thrilling urban adventures and fascinating cultural interactions. From safety and visa requirements to attire and etiquette, here’s how to make the most of a vacation to this East African country.
Check the visa requirements for Kenya
Many nationalities require a visa in order to travel. Allow enough time to complete the application and check the official website for Kenyan visas. Random checks, even after submission and payment, may result in further inquiries for some tourists.
You must log in to monitor the progress of your Kenya visa application since you won’t receive an email confirmation of it. When the visa and payment are issued, print a color copy (or two) and have them on hand, even for internal flights, such those between Nairobi and Mombasa.
Pack smart for Kenya – it’s not always hot
For a vacation to Kenya, it’s a good idea to pack clothing because early-morning safaris might be chilly. In the highlands, temperatures can sometimes dip at night. It is advised to wear fleeces and even windproof waterproofs. On the other hand, in a city or on the coast, maintaining coolness is essential. Always cover up in the midday sun and bring cool, breathable clothing.
Leave the plastics behind.
Leave any carrier bags (and preferable single-use plastic water bottles and straws) at home. Kenya prohibited single-use plastics in 2017. The country-wide bag ban means that you shouldn’t pack shoes or other items in plastic bags because luggage is frequently checked.
